An investigation on the breakup model for icing simulation of supercooled large droplets

  • The supercooled large droplet (SLD) has a diameter more than 50μm with a complicated icing mechanism, and it hasn′t been prescribed in FAR25, which forms a significant flight safety risk. Since there are some defects on the dynamic models for icing simulation, in this paper a multifactor-effected breakup (MEB) model is introduced, and its effect on SLD icing simulation is validated. The paper indicates that MEB model can improve SLD icing simulation positively. Based on this model, the droplet dynamic effects are also analyzed on droplet-collecting-efficiency and SLD icing characteristic of changing diameterdistribution, impingingcharacteristic.
