Abstract
High bypass engines make the aircraft/engine close couple, resulting in deterioration of aerodynamic characteristic. The CFD has been used to simulate viscous flow over an isolated Through Flow Nacelle(TFN), a wing-body configuration, and the wing-body-nacelle configuration of an airplane. Based on the CFD results, interference drag due to the nacelle installation has been obtained. By varying the forward and downward positions as well as the tilt and toe angles, the influence of different nacelle positions on lift and drag characteristic has been investigated to support the aerodynamic optimization of the nacelle position.
