Application of TSP transition detection technique for a civil aircraft

  • For the civil aircraft wind tunnel test, the transition position detection is one of the most important test contents. FL-3 Wind Tunnel test adopting TSP (Temperature Sensitive Paint) transition detection technique is introduced, the ARJ-4 model is used as the research object in this test. The purpose of this research is to provide a new wind tunnel transition position detection method. To validate TSP transition detection results, the IR transition detection technique and DRE (distributed roughness elements) fixed transition ways are used in this test, and the TSP developed by AVIC ARI and ICCAS is applied. The model is heated before wind tunnel running to increase the temperature difference between the laminar flow area and the turbulent flow area around the model surface. The IR marks are stuck to the TSP coat, these marks will be used in both IR image processing and TSP image processing. The wind tunnel test conditions are Mach number of 0.75 and 0.85, angle of attack between -4°~4°. The test results clearly show the difference between the laminar flow area and the turbulent flow area on the model surface, and the evolution along with the model angle of attack.
