Advances in coupling aeroelasticity and flight dynamics of bird inspired FMAV

  • Bird inspired flapping-wing micro air vehicles (FMAVs), compared with traditional micro air vehicles (MAVs), have the potential to dramatically improve flight maneuverability and efficiency. Due to the large deformation of flapping wing and the tight coupled relationship between flapping movement and body kinematics, it is necessary to couple aerodynamics, structure and flight dynamics when FMAVs are designed and studied. In this paper, domestic and foreign progress of the research on the FMAV is summarized, which includes the aerodynamics, the interaction between the fluid and structure, the flight stability, and the influence of the wing flexibility on the flight stability. Some further research topics are suggested on the unsteady aerodynamics, the scaling laws of the fluid and structure, as well as the multidisciplinary analysis.
