Abstract
Turbulent convection is ubiquitous in nature and many industrial applications. Rayleigh-Bénard(RB) convection has long been proposed as a classical system to study buoyancy-driven convection. Recently, the modulation of convective heat transfer and its mechanism have been received attentions. In RB convection, the convective heat transfer is related to the characteristics of the thermal boundary layer and the dynamics of thermal plumes. The strategies of modulation including changing the geometry of the walls and the temperature boundary conditions are proposed, in order to achieve the enhancement or suppression of heat transport efficiency. This paper presents an overview of recent advances on the boundary modulation in turbulent convection, including geometrical modulation, spatial and temporal temperature modulations. Finally, the outlook of the heat transport modulation is given.
