Abstract:
The trailing edge noise of turbulent boundary layers is the main source of aerodynamic noise of airfoils and wind turbines. This paper first gives a comprehensive analysis of wall-pressure spectrum prediction models named after Goody, Rozenberg, Kamruzzaman, Lee, and Hu by comparing their predicted noise spectra of NACA0012 and NACA64-618 airfoils with experiments under conditions of different angles of attack and Reynolds numbers. It is found that the Lee model gives the most accurate prediction. Consequently, a new noise prediction model based on the Lee model and the wind-turbine blade element momentum theory is proposed. The predicted noise spectra of a Bonus Combi wind turbine by this model are in close agreement with the measured ones, indicating that the new model has great potential for further research on wind turbine aerodynamic noise.
