Abstract:
A very important aspect of the development of wind energy science is the study of different spatio-temporal scale motions, from atmospheric motion to wind turbine scale flow field. With the development of computational power, the CFD simulation has been widely used in the field of wind energy assessment. The wind energy model has been developed from the linear model suitable for the flat terrain to a model chain suitable for the complex terrain, which can include weather processes, fan arrangement and wake effect. In this paper, we firstly introduce the current wind energy assessment, microscopic location, and development of wind power prediction model. Then we introduce the improvement of CFD simulation method in the wind energy models. We mainly focus on the "downscaling" from mesoscale to microscale, wake simulation and wind field simulation over complex terrain. Finally, we discuss the challenges in developing the CFD simulation in the future wind energy models.
