Abstract:
Orbit design plays a critical role in manned Lunar exploration programs, directly impacting its overall effectiveness and determining its ultimate success or failure. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of various orbits involved in manned Lunar exploration missions, highlighting the three key challenges faced during the orbit design process, namely the challenges of flight orbit scheme, orbit design efficiency and global optimization of mission. Then, the recent research advancements in orbit design for domestic and international tasks are briefly presented. Finally, several pivotal technical hurdles that must be overcome in the current orbit design are discussed for successful manned Lunar exploration missions, including integrated orbit design and optimization, contingency orbit design, high robustness orbit design for Earth-Moon space missions, orbit design for Lunar orbital space stations, and general design software for Earth-Moon space orbits.
